DIASEC
Diasec is the established and patented process to face-mount photographs onto a Perspex acrylic sheet invented by Heinz Sovilla-Brulhart in 1969. The image side of a traditional photographic print (digital C-type) is bonded directly to clear cast acrylic, the properties of which allow for a clearer and sharper image compared to normal glass. The Diasec bonding liquid contains a UV filter and is resistant to fungicidal, bacterial agents and airborne pollutants increasing the longevity of the print. The photograph is then backed with an aluminium sheet to reinforce the panel and allow for a custom made aluminium subframe to be attached which can then be hung directly on the wall. It will appear to float off the wall as the support is hidden from the edges. A matt finish is also available.
Pros:
contemporary, which suits corporate offices
photograph protected by acrylic
very clear photograph (especially using the clear Perspex acrylic)
full image (no border)
can be manufactured up to 3m x 2m
Cons:
more expensive than photograph mounted on aluminium, but similar price to a framed photograph
diasec using CLEAR PERSPEX
diasec using MaTT PERSPEX
FRAMED
These are traditional photographic prints (digital C-type) that are mounted flat onto aluminium, preventing ‘wavy’ photographs. They are mounted with a conservation double mount and framed using high quality true colour art glass to reduce reflections and increase clarity. They are framed by a Fine Art Trade Guild framers in a matt black metal frame. Other frames and combinations of mounting are available. The price might vary depending on changes to the above specifications.
Pros:
protected from scratches
good for textured walls since the border separates the image from the wall
wooden frames can complement the surroundings.
Cons:
heavier (photograph mounted on aluminium first)
more expensive (photograph mounted on aluminium first)
large artwork requires acrylic and not glass, which increases cost
more ‘traditional’ look
PHOTOGRAPH MOUNTED ON ALUMINIUM
Traditional photographic prints (digital C-type) are mounted onto a 1.5mm sheet of aluminium. Often considered the best method to mount a traditional photographic print since the aluminium has a perfectly smooth and flat surface. All prints are coated with a UV seal to reduce harmful UV light damaging the print. A custom made aluminium subframe is attached to the back to hang directly onto the wall, which will give the appearance of the print floating off the wall.
Pros:
lightweight (lightest of the three mediums)
contemporary finish
best value
matt finish (no reflections)
full image (no border)
can be manufactured up to 3m x 2m
Cons:
panel/ photograph more prone to damage if knocked
