In September 2018 I headed up the Marin Headlands by foot to Hawk Hill where I set up my tripod for sunset. I started photographing and experimenting with long exposures lasting ten minutes each, with the intention of stitching five images together for a large panoramic image. So it would take one hour to create the desired image. The weather changed during this period and I attempted this three times. By the time I had finished I realised it would be pointless going back to the hotel in central San Francisco for sleep just to have to wake two hours later for sunrise, so I walked down from Hawk Hill to my sunrise location, still on the Marin Headlands. For once I arrived with plenty of time to spare and set up. I survived on two American-sized Mars bars that night.
