I photographed New York for the first time in 2016. The project was to capture standalone images of the most iconic buildings in the city. I visited Madison Square Gardens several times, photographing the Flatiron at sunrise, sunset and during the night, however, none of those images were striking enough from a lighting perspective. It was by chance that I was walking through the same area during a late sunny afternoon and the sunlight caught one side of the building, providing a contrast that was not there during the other shots I took. Simply converting the image to black and white accentuated the contrast. The whole capture reminded me how it is sometimes the least planned occasions that provide the best shots.
