The perfect image in Amsterdam
The perfect image in Amsterdam
An international client in Amsterdam were relocating to new premises and although I owned a portfolio of Amsterdam, I decided to take new local images to offer a greater selection. I photographed the image here in October and my client chose it. When editing the image I noticed one of the buildings was completely covered in scaffolding. It was partially hidden by a tree covered in leaves hence it was not immediately noticeable; however, printed at 160cm it would be noticeable. It was impossible to edit out as it completely covered the building. The only solution was to re-shoot the whole image or part of the image again. So I asked a friend living in Amsterdam to check the location and confirm the scaffolding had been removed. It had, so I promptly booked a day return flight to re-shoot that part of the image. Despite the original image having a tree with leaves and the new image having a tree without leaves presented a challenge, but after a few days editing it looked convincing. It was certainly worth the effort, creating a perfectly serene view of the Amsterdam canals.
